Hi Guys,
I know we are done with our presentation, however, I found this article from Healthy Dining Guide which I think could be helpful in better understanding new restaurant menus. With new rules and guidelines on nutrition labeling, numbers are showing up on restaurant menus. And Healthy Dining is helping diners to make sense of these numbers as well as new regulations in order to make better food choices. In an effort to fulfill nutritional guidelines and requirements it seems that fat, sugar, and calorie contents are represented by numbers. This article is a good tool in helping consumers to understand these numbers and what they represent. In addition, these number may be used by consumers to determine their caloric allowance and their dietary preference before they go out to restaurant. If anyone of you is interested in learning more about Healthy Dining this is good reading.

Yes, this definetley could help peolpe that have suffered from severe health related illnesses or is currentley becoming unhealthy or obese. For many people I feel that numbers and calorie counts take alot of the fun and spontaniety out of eating out.But obviously for a nation that is in trouble from a obesity epidemic this is a needed measure that has to be clearified if to be utilized properly because many of the items that taste very good are filled with salt, sugar, and fat. For all restaurants to be mandatoraly required to do this is propbably how more restaurants would utilize this because calorie and informationdisecting the contents about a delicious meal do take some of the beauty and ambiance out of the dining experience like seeing the expensive price tag on a breath taking piece of art except you have to pay with your health instead of money.
ReplyDeleteNutrition for restaurants is a tough subject to handle. I feel that if your are an owner of a restaurant it is one more aspect that you have to deal with, along with cost control and other factors. However, if restaurants begin to use more nutritional and healthier methods of cooking/preparing items on the menu then it is a small step in the right direction. If an individual is experiencing obesity then it is their responsibility to take control and live a healthier life. Restaurants will always serve different kinds of foods, but the responsibility of the individual is eat things in moderation.
ReplyDeleteI feel that it is totally up to the individual to take the necessary measures to control what they eat. No matter what a restaurant does, a person is still going to consume what they want. It is helpful that many people in the industry is trying to help the obesity epidemic. In order to fully provide a customer with all the necessary tools to succeed in weight loss it will end up costing the restaurant more money. This will have a negative impact on the industry because there will be plenty of wasted money and nothing to replenish it. People will do what they want, and most people feel that eating out is a treat. When customers eat at a restaurant they want to go all out and eat what they normally don't. In the end it comes down to will power of the individual.
