New Opportunities in a Nutrition-Focused Era

This is article discusses how opportunistic the nutrition industry is today. Nutrition is definitely a topic that people do not want to discuss, because it is a subject that people find it hard to keep track on. For example a nutritional meal is not always composed of exciting elements of a meal. Also people get so focused on the negative things of a meal such as sodium, trans fat, etc. When they hear that most of these elements are "bad" then people tend to avoid them. The article continues on with the idea of people getting so stuck on this idea of bad nutrition, so the best way to get over this hump is to follow people who know what nutrition is. For example many people in the restaurant business are taught this, so if restaurants begin to focus on a more nutritional menu, people will be less hesitant on what they eat. Basically if we start being proactive about the idea of nutrition instead of hesitant than as consumers, we will be less likely to have diseases or unhealthy lives.

  1. I found that this article really has no significant impact on the way people think about eating healthy. Many restaurants are changing their menu due to the fact that the customers are changing the way that they eat. Many people do not like to talk about eating healthy when they dine out because many consumers feel that when they eat out it is a treat for them. The part when she talks about the children obesity rate increased that is also due to the fact that we have more processed food now and with both parents working it is easier just to eat frozen meals. It all comes down to the consumer and how they want to handle their personal situtation

  2. Nutrition may be the buzz word in the food industry today, I think it still remains a personal issue. Every individual has his or her subjective views of nutrition and what it means to him or her. Like Katie said, some people do not like to discuss healthy eating when they dine out. I also think that many people are afraid of changes that come with healthy eating. People have different approach toward health and nutrition; due in part to either; a lack of or too much of information. No matter how enthusiatic restaurants may to be to promote healthy eating; ultimately, how consumers respond to nutrition will dictate how chefs create and implement healthy menus.
