This article talks about having better eyes and clearer vision when you get older. It states that in order for this to happen you must include fish, olive oil, and nuts and steer clear of trans fatty foods. A study from Archives of Ophthalmology states that having these healthier fats will help reduce age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which deteriorates your retina. These healthier oils, known as omega-3 fatty acids, have been known to help you. However, John Paul SanGiovanni a scientist with the National Eye Institute has been researching more about the acids. AMD is the main cause of blindness in individuals 65 years and older. Another study stated that people who ate a spoonful of omega-3 would have a 31% less chance of having the disease. I believe having a healthier style of living will promote a longer and better life. Having foods that contain healthier fats and oils should be promoted all over restaurants, so that consumers can have a healthier dining experience.

That is great I never knew Omega oils where good for the eyes as well. I have heard they are good moisturizers for the skin and hair. Also they are very important for manufacturing of the bodies amino acids and proteins. Also omega oils are great for athletes to help lubricate joints that are used constantly and go through a lot of stress.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that some studies have stated, a diet rich in fish, olive oil and nuts may be helpful in reducing AMD, which translate into healthy eye, in addition to a diet low in transfat. That is indeed encouraging news. On the other hand, other studies such as,the vegetarian low protein diet have found that fish and nut particularly Brazil nuts have large amount of methionine. This amino acid is believed to promote aging.
ReplyDeleteI believe that achieving healthier and better living is very challenging particularly for the food industry. It is a matter of reaching the right balance; in this case, between healthy eye and living longer. Like they say, some times what is good for one thing may not necessarily good for another.
This article is a great find. Knowing that omega 3's can help vision care is a good fact to know. I think that this can be a long term finding due to the fact that many people eat lots of fish and olive oil. According to the study the more fish, olive oil, and nuts will help reduce amd. This study will be helpful in the future, if more people follow it.
