Children Exercise Decreases

This articles is about how this generation of children are not getting enough exercise. The rate of obesity has grown since 1998, when the study first started. They tested a bunch of children in 1998 to see how fast and how long they can run. They then did this study again in 2009 and saw a significant change. The children in 2009 were not able to run as quick or as far as the ones from 1998 did. They feel that this is occurring because children these days do not play outside, they are always inside playing video games instead of baseball.

I feel that not only is it the parents fault for not making their children play outside, it is their fault for how they are eating. When a child becomes overweight, it is the parents duty to make sure they get back on track with healthy eating and exercise.

  1. I feel that exercise in the United States has been something that Americans put on the back burner. It all starts with the parents leading by examples for the children. If children end up getting their dose of exercise each day then I feel that the obesity rate would decrease. I like the idea of the President's plan for testing fitness. If the fitness level of children is tested at the beginning and they work up then it would be a boost for their nutrition.

  2. This is a great article. I totally agree that parents should be responsible to get their children back on tract by not only providing nutrious food, but also by encouraging traditional children activities like; jumping rope, shooting a basketball, a run in the park and frequent visits to the playground. However, they are not soly responsible. This goes beyond the parent and the school. The government need to be a serious partner if sociaty wants to grow healthy kids. they need to take stiff action againt television advertizings aiming at children; not just food commercials, but homebound games and activities that encourage children to sit indoor for a long period of time, like video games for example. In addition, the focus should be on growing healthier children as oppose to growing healhty kids. By that ,I mean instead of putting most of the energy on obese kids, it should be spread to all kids healthy or not, like the British government is doing. By doing so healthy chidren will learn how to maintain and keep an healthy body.
